About Me
I earned my Ph.D. in Texts and Technology at the University of Central Florida with an area of specialization in Scientific and Technical Communication and interdisciplinary study in Instructional Design, and I have a Master's degree in English from the University of Toledo.
Currently, I am a Lecturer of Technical Communication at the University of Central Florida, in Orlando, Florida, where I teach ENC 3241 Writing for the Technical Professional in both face-to-face and online formats and ENC 4265 Writing for the Computer Industry and ENC 4293 Documentation and Project Management online.
I have 25 years of teaching and course design experience in all modalities; in fact, I won the 2021 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach Best Course Design for my COM 221 Technical Report Writing HYB (hybrid) course. Most recently, I won the 2025 AIM High Individual Rising award from UCF for my use of Open Educational Resources and writing a full open access Pressbook for my ENC 4265 Writing for the Computer Industry Course.
My research interests include usability and clarity in technical document, document design, and user-experience design, and I have published multiple articles and a book called How-To Write a Tutorial, which is an Open Educational Resource.
My personal life is just as busy as my professional life since I have four kids, a dog, and a cat. Besides my kids and pets, my favorite things include 80s music, the beach, and all things Star Trek and Marvel. Someday, I would love to travel the world to see as many countries and experience as many cultures as possible.
